Manual therapy course for patients with brain injury

22.6kviews

Centro Lescer launches a manual therapy course for patients with brain injury with the collaboration of physiotherapist and osteopath Rafael González.

The aim of this course is combining knowledge in manual therapy with the treatment of neurological patients to improve physiological alterations and re-educate patients with acquired brain injury (ABI). In other words, seeking an integrative approach which takes into account the general nature of the emotional, cognitive, physical, intellectual and relational effects.

Centro Lescer provides this training in manual therapy for patients with brain injury “in hopes of supporting professionals working in the field of neurology in their professional development and improving the care of ABI patients.”

Introduction

Studies in recent years have shown that the interface of the fascial system (connective tissue) interferes with the most complex systems (vascular, muscular, nervous), causing general interference and slowing the recovery of function. Therefore, the aim of this course is combining knowledge in manual therapy—focusing on fascial therapy—with the treatment of neurological patients to improve physiological alterations and re-educate patients with acquired brain injury. In other words, seeking an integrative approach which takes into account the general nature of the emotional, cognitive, physical, intellectual and relational effects.

This course is intended to assist professionals in acquiring skills and abilities that will allow them, through theoretical and practical analysis, to improve movement evaluation and treatment in patients with acquired brain injury.

Objectives and methodology

  • Improving the technical skills of professionals specialized in manual therapy within the field of neurorehabilitation. Technique possibilities and limitations.
  • Taking a closer look at biomechanical dysfunction and loss of resources in neurological patients.
  • Local and global interactions with neurological patients. The course will consist of two parts, a theoretical and a practical part, of fundamental content on manual therapy focused on patients with ABI. Attendees will perform an introductory practical examination and treatments using real patients.
