Work sessions in groups with NeuronUP

19.7kviews

Did you know that with NeuronUP, besides working individually, you can also work in group sessions? Some centers, especially associations, work with groups where patients solve between them  the different activities. And, there is no doubt that working in groups has many advantages.

Advantages of group sessions

Let’s highlight the three main ones:

  1. It greatly increases motivation.
  2. Patients learn from each other how to perform the task.
  3. Social skills are worked on (respecting the turn to speak, listening, helping if necessary…).

NeuronUP has both paper activities to work in a group way, and digital activities suitable for group work. We show you some exercises and explain how to work them in group.

Digital Activities to work in groups

But how? It’s very easy! Let us explain it to you:

1. In order to work sessions in a group setting the first step is create a group “patient”.  In observations we can write the names of the participants and upload a photo of the group to their profile or an image that identifies them.

2. When we create the session we can label it with the name of the group or with the names of the members of that group to be able to identify it quickly.

In this case we may want to put “no” in the option “user evaluation” to focus exclusively on the exercises and leave “yes” in “confirm end of activity” and “yes” in “continue button” to control the pace of the session..

Next, let us suggest some digital activities of NeuronUP ideal to work in group:

1. Matching the Cards and Animal Pairs

How are they played?

This activity consists of discovering the pairs between a set of cards placed face down.

What cognitive functions do they work?

  1. Episodic memory
  2. Selective attention
  3. Working memory

How do we do these activities in a group setting?

Both of these games have extra customization that allows the professional to number the cards on the back to make the group activity easier.

Customizing is easy:

  1. Choose the game, Animal Pairs for example.
  2. Click on Personalized stages.
  3. Type the name you’d like to give your personalized activity.
  4. On the General Features tab, make any adjustments you’d like
  5. Click on Parameters.
  6. Click Yes in the “Numbering on the back” section.
  7. Click on finish and save your customization.
  8. Now the cards will be numbered like you see in the image!

2. Hangman and The Word Guardian

How is it played?

This activity consists of guessing the hidden words by choosing one at a time the letters that form them.

What cognitive functions do they work?

  1. Vocabulary
  2. Working Memory

How can you play in a group setting?

Each participant will say one letter until the word is guessed or the game is over.

“Hangman”

3. Correct Image Name

How is it played?

The patient has to discriminate the word that corresponds to the image presented.

What cognitive functions does it work?

  1. Discrimination

How can it be worked in a group setting?

Each of the possible solutions has a letter. So the patient will simply have to say “A, B, C or D” to identify which word corresponds to the image indicated.

There is also the option for the therapist to ask “Who thinks the correct answer is “A”? and patients who think that is the correct answer, raise their hand. He or she will then do the same with B, C and D. This will allow you to check the response of all users.

Remember that this activity also has a printable version
